Boosting

Boosting re-ranks search and recommendation results by your own business signals — margin, preferred brands, price direction — without hiding or removing any results. It’s a layer on top of Text Search and Similar Products: those services stay in charge of which products are relevant; Boosting adjusts the order.

  • 🔀 Reorders, never filters

A boosted result set contains exactly the same products as before — boosting only changes their position.

  • 🧮 Works on any column

Boosting isn’t limited to a fixed list of signals — pick any catalog attribute or custom field (margin, CPC, a preferred-brand flag, stock age, anything) and boost by it.

  • ↕️ Two directions

A boosting campaign either prefers higher/matching values (surface more of that column) or lower/non-matching values (suppress it).

  • 🔢 Numeric or value-based

Boost by a numeric column (e.g. rank products by margin) or by specific preferred values on a categorical column (e.g. rank Nike above everything else).

  • ⚖️ Combines with relevance

A boosted ranking blends the original relevance order with the boosting signal — a strongly relevant result isn’t knocked out by boosting, but a moderately relevant one with a strong boost signal can move up.

  • 🧩 Multiple campaigns can apply at once

Several boosting campaigns can apply to the same search or recommendation campaign, each with its own weight.

Boosting is its own campaign type in Panel — create one from Site → Campaigns → Create new campaign → Campaign Type: Boosting, or create one inline while configuring a Text Search or Similar Products campaign.

Boosting settings

  • Name
  • Column — any of the site’s filterable attributes or custom fields.
  • Boosting strategy — Prefer higher / matching values or Prefer lower / non-matching values.
  • Preferred value(s) — for a numeric column, a single value and weight to boost toward; for a categorical column (e.g. brand), a list of preferred values, each with its own weight.

Linked service campaigns shows which Text Search or Similar Products campaigns currently use this boosting campaign — boosting only takes effect once it’s linked to one.

Linking to a Text Search or Similar Products campaign

Section titled “Linking to a Text Search or Similar Products campaign”

On that campaign’s own page, under its Boosting section:

  • Boosting influence — how strongly the combined boosting signal affects the final ranking, from none to fully.
  • Boostable products limit — optionally cap boosting to only the top N products in the unboosted ranking, via Top products only and Last boostable product.
  • Position raise limit — optionally cap how far boosting can move a product up, via Limit raise and Maximal raise.
  • Linked Boosting Campaigns — link one or more existing boosting campaigns (each with its own weight), or create a new one inline without leaving this screen.

Boosting is currently available for Text Search and Similar Products only — Visual Search and Cross-Selling don’t support it yet.
